Help residents turn on autopay

Residents turn on autopay themselves once their lease is active and your payouts are ready. You see who has it on.

Who turns it on

Only the resident can turn autopay on or off, because they authorize the charges to their own bank account or card. You cannot turn it on for them.

Autopay is available when:

  • The lease is active.
  • Your payouts are set up and Stripe can take payments.
  • For a card, you accept cards on Payouts. Otherwise residents use a bank account.

What residents do

On their lease in the Holuway dashboard, or under Pay rent in their resident portal, they select Set up autopay, choose how to pay, set an optional limit, agree to the authorization and select Save and turn on autopay. Holuway then charges each due date and emails them a receipt. If a charge fails, they are emailed and it is tried once more three days later.

Send residents Pay rent and set up autopay for the steps.

What you see

On a lease's ledger, the payment terms say Tenant autopay: on with the method. Payments made by autopay are marked in the payment list.

Residents also get a rent reminder by email a few days before rent is due, if it is not paid yet. They can turn reminders off; there is no setting for them on your side.
