Rent collection

Online rent collection, with autopay and a ledger that keeps itself.

Residents pay by bank or card from any phone, or let autopay do it. Every charge and payment lands in the lease ledger as it happens, and the money goes straight to your bank account.

Example screen: names, places and figures are samples.

01 · How residents pay

By bank, by card, or on autopay.

Residents link a bank account securely through Stripe or pay by card if you allow cards. Autopay pays each charge on its due date from the saved method, with an optional limit and a retry if a payment fails.

  • Rent by bank is free for residents
  • Card payments carry a processing fee the resident sees first
  • Autopay can be turned off by the resident at any time

02 · The ledger

One ledger per lease, always complete.

Rent is charged on the due day you set, prorated when a lease starts mid-month. Deposits, fees and credits sit beside it. Cash and checks are recorded in the same place, so the balance is right whichever way rent arrives.

  • Due day, grace days and late-fee rule per lease
  • Charges voided or waived, never quietly edited
  • Proration from the lease dates

03 · Reminders and late fees

The same rules, every month, for everyone.

Residents are reminded before rent is due. When the grace period ends, the late fee you set is charged, and both you and the resident are told by email. Nothing depends on remembering.

  • Upcoming rent reminders
  • Late fees after the grace period, by your rule
  • Overdue leases on your home screen

04 · Your money

Paid to your own account through Stripe.

You connect your own Stripe account once, and rent is paid into it and on to your bank. Holuway does not hold your rent. Refunds, deposit returns with itemized deductions and disputes are handled from the lease.

  • Payouts on your Stripe schedule
  • Deposits released with itemized deductions
  • Exports for QuickBooks Online, Xero and spreadsheets

Questions, answered

How long does a bank payment take?

Bank payments are debits through Stripe and take a few business days to settle, as bank debits do. The ledger shows the payment as soon as the resident pays, and its status as it settles.

Can I refuse card payments?

Yes. Cards are your choice. Bank payments are always offered and are free for residents.

Who pays the payment fees?

You pay the fee on rent by bank, which is free for residents. A resident who chooses a card pays the card processing fee, shown before paying, and you receive the full rent.

What happens when autopay fails?

The resident is told by email and autopay tries once more three days later. The charge stays open in the ledger until it is paid, and your late-fee rule applies after the grace period.

Can I record rent paid outside Holuway?

Yes. Record cash, checks and other payments in the ledger. A payment recorded twice by accident counts once, and a mistake is voided with its reason.
